James Scott Wright, Host of Inside Med Admissions

Dr. Wright has worked in medical education for more than 25 years. He served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and Director of the Health Professions Advising Center for  University of Texas at Dallas and as the Director of Admissions at UT Southwestern Medical School. He also served as executive director of the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service and editor-in-chief of APPLY Magazine. He currently serves as Vice President of Advising at Mappd.

Scott’s interests include the psycho-social aspects of personal growth and professionalism, mindfulness and techniques to limit distractibility, and helping pre-health students through the arduous journey to fulfill their dreams.  Dr. Wright has spoken on these and other topics throughout the USA and internationally.

Leila Amiri, University of Illinois College of Medicine

CEO and Co-founder, Mappd.

Dr. Amiri is the Assistant Dean for Admissions and Recruitment at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. She serves as the Co-Chair of the AAMC BA/MD Affiliate Group and Central Region Lead to the PDI. She also serves as a representative on the AAMC MCAT Validity Project, as a member of the Enrollment Management Working Group for the Advancing Holistic Review Initiative, and as a member of the AMCAS Advisory Committee. Previous professional experiences include serving as a member of the AAMC National Committee on Admissions and as a holistic admissions review workshop facilitator for the Advancing Holistic Review Initiative. Dr. Amiri’s research interests include understanding learning in medical students, equitable access to medical education, holistic review in admissions, and diversity in the physician workforce.

Kristen Anderson, Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine

COO and Co-Founder, Mappd.

Kristen Anderson is the Director of Admissions at the Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has 9 years of experience working with premedical students and previously served as a pre-health counselor at the largest public university in Utah. She holds a Master of Social Work degree and is passionate about mental health, increasing diversity in medicine, and helping others achieve their dreams.

Joel Daboub, Dell Medical School, University of Texas

VP, Academic Advising

Joel Daboub is the Director of Admissions and Records at Dell Medical School.  His responsibilities include implementing and managing the selection process for new candidates and coordinating the registration and retention of students’ academic records with the appropriate entities within The University of Texas at Austin. With over 30 years of experience in higher education, Daboub brings a wealth of experience and insight to the admissions process at Dell Medical School. He is particularly interested in the use of holistic selection practices in the identification and selection of applicants, and has given presentations at both regional and national meetings on innovative approaches for mission-based admissions
